Task 2
1. Agree or disagree：children are leading much easier lives than adults.
I agree with this statement for the following reasons. Firstly, the priority for children is to learn, they only have to care about school curriculum which usually consists of fun classes such as arts and craft, basic science, home education and so forth. Secondly, people don’t have many expectations from children, they can just enjoy their childhood, nothing to get stressed about. Lastly, adults have more responsibilities, they have to do housework and take care of their parents and children, giving the whole family financial support such as paying water, electricity bills, tuition fee and rent as well, all that is not easy to manage.
2. Some people think it's better to take classes in the daytime and have a part-time job in the evening, some people prefer to have a part-time job in the daytime and take classes in the evening. Which do you think is better? Use specific details and examples to explain your answer.
I prefer to take classes in the daytime and have a part-time job in the evening for two reasons. Firstly, studying in the daytime especially in the morning can be very productive, people usually are more focused in the morning and thus can finish some difficult tasks. Secondly, taking classes in the evening is not a good idea because people always get distracted by checking messages, emails or calls, people cannot fully concentrate on the class. Lastly, taking a part-time job would be very exhausting, if you choose to work in the daytime, you may not be able to study and focus on your classes at night which is not a good option for students.
3. Do you agree or disagree with the statement that people should dress following fashion trends?
I think people should not dress following fashion trends for two reasons. Firstly, fashion is in change all the time, it is hard to keep up. It is time-wasting for you to search for the fashion items online or on the magazines, and that would cost you a bit to buy things that probably not fit. Secondly, keeping your own style can never be boring. Fashion sense means your attitudes, personalities, that is what makes the world more diversity and make yourself stand out, that is something that makes you special. So I think we should not follow the common dress fashion but keep your style instead.
4. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? University education is more important than it was in the past.
I agree with this statement for the following reasons. Firstly, the competition of job hunting is increasingly getting fierce, qualifications and diplomas that you may achieve in college would be very helpful for you in the future. In China, it is hard for people with high school diploma to earn their bread, people who have bachelor degrees probably can get a more promising job, which means they may lead a better lifestyle. It is brutal but it is true. Secondly, university can not only provide some professional courses but also enlarge your social network, you can always get some good references from your tutors or professors, and also, there are hundreds of alumnus who can offer you some open positions which can make your much easier.
5. Some people believe technology has brought people closer and others believe that technology has actually distanced people, which one do you agree with? Explain why.
I think technology definitely has brought people closer. Firstly, everybody is using social medias to contact with friends and families, you can even use it to video chat with them anytime you want. For example, I am always using skype which is a free video chatting app to talk with my best friend Todd, who is living in New Zealand right now, we would schedule to skype when we are both free and catch up at some point. Also, you may make some new friends online. Secondly, technology has changed the way people travel, it only takes few hours to travel from Beijing to the South of China by train. It is possible to go home and visit your parents who are far away from you even on weekends.
6. Do you agree or disagree with the statement that it’s important for students to study Art and Music in school. Explain your answer in details.
7. If you were given an empty piece of land, would you rather using it to build a garden or a playground for children?
I’ d rather use the piece of land to build a garden for the following reasons. First of all, there is not much space for children to play these days. Offering a public place like garden is a good way to allow children to get together to socialize and have some fun like having picnic with their parents and friends. Secondly, building a garden would encourage children to spend more time outdoors. A garden which is full of flowers and trees will make children feel like they are out in nature for a change. Kids nowadays lack of some outdoors exercises, they spend way too much time hooked up to their computers, cellphones and game consoles at home. It's nor healthy or productive to be connected all the time. So it is necessary to build a garden.
8. Some people prefer to live in the present, others prefer to be prepared for the future and plan ahead. Which do you prefer? Explain why.
I prefer to live in the present for the following reasons. Firstly, I am always living the moment and I enjoy my life so much. I have a stable job and I am living with my best friend, sometimes we travel together, it seems that nothing can bother me. Secondly, making a plan ahead could be very time-wasting. Future is so unpredictable; you would never know what would happen tomorrow. Sometimes, making a plan can be annoying and disappointing as well. Once you make a plan and get prepared, you would expect a lot, but things would probably not go the way that you expect. So it is unnecessary to make a plan about it.
9. Do you think scientists should be required to study certain fields or to study whatever that interests them?
Scientists should be able to study whatever interests them because interest generates passion and passion is the key element of successes. If we force scientists to study certain fields, they might feel that their freedom is taken away from them and thus lack enthusiasm in their subjects. In that case, scientists can't have great achievements in edgy fields. However, if scientists can follow their interests, they'll be able to succeed in a variety of fields and those achievements can contribute to revolutions in our society.
10. agree or disagree: having group discussion in class is good for study.
I think having group discussion is really good for study. Firstly, when students are discussing, they are exchanging their ideas and opinions, they can learn something new which may offer them different perspectives of understanding the class topic. Take myself as an example, when I was studying social policy in England, we were always having seminars or discussion in lectures, I learned a lot by listening my classmates’ introduction regarding the policies of their countries, which inspired me a lot and gave me a lot of motivation to finish all of my assignments. Secondly, during the discussion, students are making the serious and intense atmosphere of class more fun and immediately active.
11. Which one you think is better: Some teachers want students to sit in the same seats throughout the whole semester. Other teachers think students can choose their own seats each time and sit in different seats. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
12. Your professor is asking you to help with some research on the weekend, but you have planned to go to your sister’s birthday party. Which would you choose? Explain why.
13. Some people prefer to work independently, others prefer to work with others. Which do you prefer? Explain your answer in details.
Well, I prefer to work with others for the following two reasons. To start with, work with others is more efficient. When I was in middle school, I liked doing math homework with my classmates so that whenever I had questions or difficulty in understanding a formula, I could ask for help easily. In the end, we all finished our homework sooner. Moreover, working with others offers us the chance to speak and get engaged. If we work independently, we won’t be able to discuss with others in any forms; whereas group discussions allow each one of us to contribute.
14. Some people believe the government should invest money in a program designed to save and protect endangered species of animals. Others believe that money for such programs should only come from private sources. Which point of view do you agree with?
15. Some people prefer to live in residence with strict rules, others prefer to live in residence without strict rules. Which do you prefer and why?
To be frank, I prefer to live in residence with strict rules because of the following two reasons. The first reason is that residence with strict rules is safer. For example, my friend Kathy lives with her parents in a neighborhood where most of the military people live. Whenever I go visit her, there are a series of procedures that I have to go through which I like very much since this makes me feel secure. The second reason is that the rules make people behave themselves. An old saying goes like this: Nothing can be accomplished without rules. It also applies to residence. Living in residence with strict rules could force us to follow and behave accordingly.
16. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement, technology has made people’s life a lot easier than before? Give specific reasons and details in your answer.
