博纳寰美解读-16年美国本科申请COMMON APP写作题目解析

近日，COMMON APP（美国绝大部分著名高校共同使用的网上申请系统）发出通知，公布了2016年美国本科申请的最新文书题目以及有关政策改变，来看博纳寰美的独家解析。

 

2016年美国本科申请COMMON APP第1题：

 

1. Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.翻译：一些学生具有有意义的背景、身份、兴趣或者天分，他们会认为如果不告诉录取委员会，他们的申请不会完整。如果这种情况是在描述你自己，请分享你的故事。

 

原题：

Some students have a background or story that is so central to their identity that they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.

翻译：一些学生具有对他们自己非常重要的背景或者故事，他们会认为如果不告诉录取委员会，他们的申请不会完整。如果这种情况是在描述你自己，请分享你的故事。

 

解析：主要改变前半部分，原题强调的是背景或者故事，而现在增加到背景、身份、兴趣或者天分。所以写作范围扩大了。另外一个改变就是原题说so central to their identity（对自己身份特别重要），而现在是说so meaningful(有意义），其实也是在说只要有意义，就可以写。

 

2. The lessons we take from failure can be fundamental to later success. Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?

翻译： 我们从失败中获得的教训可能对以后的成功具有重要意义。请叙述一次你经历失败的事故或者时刻，并分析这次失败如何影响你，你从中获得了什么？

翻译：反思你是否成功挑战过别人的信念或者想法。什么促使你去挑战？如果你再做一次决定，是否还会这么做？

解析：本题没有修改。

 

4. Describe a problem you've solved or a problem you'd like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma-anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.

翻译：描述你已经解决或者想去解决的问题。它可以是一个学术挑战、研究课题或者道德困境，只要你觉得对你非常重要就可以。解释一下它对你的意义以及你采取或者会采取哪些步骤找到解决方案。

解析：以前协助学生解析这道题的时候，总是感觉这个题目的目的是什么，也觉得不是一道很理想的题目。现在修改得更加明确。赞一个。

 

5. Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family.

翻译：讨论一个正式或者非正式的成就或者活动，标志着在你的文化圈、社区或者家庭中你从孩子到成人的转变。

其他变动：

 

成员院校可以选择要求或者不要求使用COMMON APP提供的小作文题目。以前是所有会员学校必须使用该系统提供的小作文题目。这意味着小作文的题目会更多，灵活性加大，申请难度进一步增加。

 

另外，从下一年开始，学生可以预览任何页面，而不是等到提交的时候才能预览。

 

更多的改变将稍后公布，主要是有关是否提交推荐信的内容。

 

博纳寰美点评：就今年的文书题目来看，基本没有太大的变化，除了题目一给了学生更大的空间；文书写作切忌贪大求全，还是要从“一”到“专”。另外博纳寰美留学提醒大家尽快启动2016年秋季入学申请，提前做好准备。从往年的经验上看，不少学生到了9月才开始选校，发现自己的条件（例如没有考SAT2)无法满足学校的硬性入学要求，非常被动。再次重申博纳寰美那句话：早准备早申请，早申请早得益。
